Honda Takes It to the Sky(deck)

Honda Skydeck conceptYou are viewing the Honda Skydeck concept, which is a hybrid that can seat up to six people. The concept is also an MPV. It was recently unveiled at this year’s motor show in Tokyo.

There are no B pillars in the concept vehicle. Its front doors scissor, its rear doors slide; both sets thus provide easy access to the inside of the vehicle. The components of the hybrid system, such as the vehicle’s high battery, are located in the central tunnel of the car, so the vehicle’s center of gravity is lower. Cabin space is also increased because of this design. As a result, there are three rows comprised of two seats each.

Hybrid Cars – Alternative Car Fuel

The rising gas prices over the last few years and environmental problems caused by fossil fuels have forced people to look for alternative car fuels that are both more inexpensive and cleaner. One type of car that meets these requirements is known as the hybrid. A hybrid is capable of higher mileage per gallon, because it does not solely run on a fossil fuel based combustion engine.

Hybrid CarsHybrid cars are considered to be alternatives to standard fuels because they can run on either a gas engine or be powered by the rechargeable energy storage system or RESS for short, which is an electric motor. Since the first hybrid car, the electric motor has been improved upon and longer distances can be traveled without having to use the combustion engine. This is made possible by the addition of regenerative braking to the car, which charges the electrical system through the capture of kinetic energy from the braking actions.

Hybrid cars are also cleaner and have less negative impact on the environment. This is a result of using less gas or diesel and relying more on the electric motor. The majority of recent hybrid car models also have the so-called start-stop system which automatically turns off the combustion engine when idle and starts it again when driving resumes. This technology reduces emissions and increased efficiency.

Today hybrid vehicles are available from most of the major car makers and it is now a top priority due to increased consumer interest in cars that are cleaner, cheaper to drive and not dependent on oil based fuels. The initial cost to purchase a hybrid instead of a standard combustion engine model of a car is reasonable and costs only a few thousand more.

There’s loads of info about hybrid cars online – and we recommend you read up on the technical aspects too – it’s a great new thing for the automotive industry!

Chevy Volt — It’s All Over The News!

Chevy Volt

When I first saw the Chevy Volt – I was not all that impressed.  Now, that was probably my fault for not doing my research but I honestly did not think that it was the truth – that for 230 miles, you would not have to fill up your gas tank.

However, it seems that the Chevy Volt has been running and it is pretty true … in most cases.  While GM has been gunning for this car to work to bring their numbers back up – there are many skeptics out there.

The Chevy Volt is one of those cars that – if it goes through it not only going to be one of the best cars on the market, but it is going to save everyone a hell of a lot of money on gas – which is exactly why I would buy one.  While I might be paying on the car forever, I would definitely be saving quite a bit on gas money, which is awesome!

2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6

When you think about BMW – what is usually the first thing that comes to your mind?  Well, the first thing that comes to my mind is never hybrid and never ever fuel efficient, however – BMW has switched their name around a bit and they are not becoming one of the premium hybrid car makers, starting with the all new 2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6.  This beautiful, wonderful and powerful BMW lives right up to the name and is certainly one of the hybrids that is not only pretty to look at … but absolutely powerful in every way possible.

The great thing about the 2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is that there is a ton of horsepower behind that engine – 480 HP actually and it has very impressive powertain that consists of twin electric motors and twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine.  This car can run to sixty and will take just about 5 seconds to get to the top speed of 130 miles per hour.

2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is the car to get – it is a hybrid, it is fast and it is by far one of the coolest looking cars.  What’re you waiting for again?

Jaguar going hybrid, engineers say Lexus builds inefficient hybrids

Jaguar keeps its hands busy with the development of the new XJ saloon which is set to be released by the third quarter of 2010. The sales of the current XJ version are not as impressive as its competition from the 7 series of BMW and the S-Class of Mercedes Benz. Jaguar learned that looking in the past for design inspiration is a big mistake and they will not be making the same error again.

Jaguar designers wants to build new cats that are ready to pounce with more aggression. According to an insider, they are looking at deriving the lines of the new XJ from the XF. Aside from the look upgrade, the XJ will also get a work up with new engine features.

The car manufacturer is planning to launch a hybrid XJ by 2011 or a year after the new XJ saloon hits dealerships. The plug-in XJ will utilize the power from lithium ion battery packs combined with a combustion engine primarily used to back up the batteries.

All the plans can be executed, thanks to a loan amounting to £307 million from an investment bank. Jaguar is planning to collaborate with Land Rover to develop hybrid technologies which can be used for their next range of cars.

The platform Jaguar plans to use is a lot more similar to the one used by the Chevrolet Volt. Land Rover will be looking into engines similar to the Prius’ which makes use of both the combustion engine and the electric powertrain to drive the wheels.
