Update On Saab: Spyker To Buy!

SpykerFor those of you that have been following the auto news surrounding Saab, there is an update!  Finally, someone is going to purchase Saab and that is Spyker.  T Spyker has extended the deadline on its final-final offer to purchase Saab from GM and I can tell you that this Dutch company is serious.

General Motors has set a deadline of December 31st to conclude its sale completely of Saab and while we know that Spyker is working on purchasing the brand, there are some obstacles that they are trying to overcome right now.

Hopefully – for all you Saab fans out there, the deal goes through and Spyker does end up purchasing the Swedish brand.

If you are a Saab fan and you have been waiting on pins and needles to hear if Koenigsegg is actually going to buy Saab from GM – I am the bearer of bad news.  Well – actually, autoblog.com is because that is where I caught this headline from.  Koenigsegg is actually pulling out of the negotiations to buy Saab.

Right now – no one really knows what is going to happen with the Swedish automaker’s future right now.  It is really unclear exactly what is going to happen but GM is going to take the next several days in order to actually assess the situation and figure out what they are going to do.

GM is really looking to get Saab off of their plate so they can move onto bigger brands but no one really seems to take all that much interest in this brand.

Chrysler Finally Going To Start Leasing Again?

ChryslerWhen you think about it – Chrysler is actually the only auto group that truly doesn’t lease cars or trucks.  In July 2008, they announced that they were not going to lease anymore vehicles, now however – they might have to actually switch up that kind of thinking.  The reason for the stopping of the leasing was because they were trying to force buyers into actually buying a car versus just leasing it.

However – the plan kind of back-fired on them, as after leasing was discontinued, Chrysler’s market share actually dropped by about 11.3% to 9.2%.  The decline was in part by Chrysler’s very public bankruptcy proceedings and it very lackluster product line, however there is little doubt that this year – Chrysler will be back on track.

It seems that leasing is going to be coming back as well, on September 18th actually, it should be coming back for the general public!

Detroit Auto Show Brinksmanship: What Is Going To Happen?

800px-detroit_gm_headquartersWe all know that the Detroit Auto Show is definitely on the brink and it could not happen at all but did you know that … this week, they are actually considering a few other options around Detroit versus just Cobo hall?  For example, the Rock Financial showroom is something that they are considering and while that might not be in Detroit itself, it is still in Michigan.

The Detroit Auto Show is by far one of the biggest auto shows in the world, as it is international and it really gives a chance for the auto makers to really showcase exactly what they have – however, Detroit is not the best place for them to be having it as Detroit is basically owned by GM.  Places like LA and New York are being considered right now.

Alls I have to say is that I hope that they do not exactly move the auto show simply because I live in Michigan!  However, if they do – it’s okay and we’ll hopefully see a turn around in coming years!
